Elijah Of Buxton Post#2

  2. 1. The unusual item the Preacher possesses is his mystery pistol, and people believe that he got it off of a white man when they were attacking.
    2. The Preacher tells Elijah this because he might want Elijah to be scared, or he wants Elijah to do something for him. The Preacher decides it is a gift from God.
    3. Elijah’s birth is a symbol of hope because he was the first black baby born free.
    4. The creed represents the strong sense community because everyone helps each other do work in the stables, they bring each other food, and they help each other with their jobs. Helping others uplifts all because if you help someone, they help someone else, and eventually everyone is happy with what they have. People in Buxton help each other with work and food and living.
    5. Some challenges people in Buxton face are the white people being rude to them, or other black people disregarding them because they don’t want to talk. Teachers give beatings and students can be discouraging in many ways.

  3. 1. The Preacher possesses a gun, and the people of Buxton believe that he got it when he disappeared into woods.
    2. The Preacher can’t make up his mind whether Elijah “chunking rocks” is a gift of god or conjuring because he doesn’t know if Elijah “chunking rocks” has a good purpose like catching fish or whether he’s a conjurer and is working for the devil. Eventually the Preacher decides that Elijah has gained a gift from god. The Preacher makes him that decision when he sees Elijah “chunking rock” at large fish in almost one fell swipe.
    3. Elijah Freeman’s birth is a symbol of hope for the people of Buxton because he was the first baby child to be born out of slavery.
    4. Helping one another is uplifting to all because it makes you feel good inside when you help somebody and if other people see you helping somebody it makes them think you are a kind person. Some ways the Buxton people help each other is by giving out food; like how Elijah got some fish from the lake and then he gave it to other people. Another is when Elijah’s mom packed a family friend his lunch.
    5. Some examples of challenges the people of Buxton face are people from America taking some people back to America for slavery work again. Also Mrs. Holton pays Mr. Leroy a lot of money to clear her land and do more work that she and her daughters can’t do. Mrs. Holton is helping Mr. Leroy by paying him and Mr. Leroy is always looking to do extra work because he is planning on saving up money to buy his wife, daughter, and son out of America.

  4. 1. The preacher has the mystery pistol. Most people believe that he toke the pistol when he left to go into the woods.
    2. The preacher can’t make up his mind because he could be posseted and that he could have gotten the gift from God. The preacher thinks that God gave Elijah the gift of chunking rocks.
    3. Elijah is a freeman’s birth is a symbol of hope for the people of Buxton because he was the first kid to be born of slavery.
    4. One way of people helping each other out is when Elijah goes fishing he brings back fish, and gives it out to people. Also when Elijah trades fish for some pie and they are all getting something they want.
    5. Some challenges they face is if there kids are in the slavery camp they will have to go ask the slave owner if he or she could buy that slave. In Buxton you have to have a garden in your front yard and a dich in the back of the yard, and they have to have their home 10 feet away from the road.

    2. The preacher tells Alijah that he can`t make up his mind because he wants Alijah to be afraid he will tell everyone that he`s conjuring. In the end the preacher decides it is a gift from god.
    3. Elijah`s birth was a sign of hope for the community because he was the first born out of captivity in the small town of Buxton.

    2.The preacher can’t make whether throwing rocks is a gift from god or conjuring because Elijah hits the target ever time, but misses once so the preacher can’t decide whether he is a conjurer or just really good at throwing rocks.
