1) In complete sentences, list all the reasons why Fritz is determined to risk his life and escape over the wall and across the dangerous River Spree to West Berlin. What are the factors pushing him away from East Berlin; what are the factors attracting him to West Berlin?
2)Then, tell what you would do in his place. Would you stay or would you go? Why? If you chose to go, then what about your mother and younger sister? If you chose to stay, how would you shape your future.

ReplyDeleteIf I were Fritz I would probably decide to leave. I would do that because there would be no future for my family and I. But I wouldn’t leave alone. I would escape with my family. It would take a while to find a way to escape but I would probably risk it anyway. Sam
1. Fritz will not be able to avoid signing up for the military, but he doesn’t want to. He planned to escape across the River Spree to West Berlin so he can avoid the army.

Fritz wants to leave East Berlin because of the Starzi. They have a file on Fritz because his father was in an uprising. He also smuggled a banana for Gerta’s birthday as well as some Beatles albums. Fritz won’t be able to get into a college, and he will be forced to join the military. Fritz doesn’t want to stay in East berlin because when he is forced to join the military; he will be forced to take the most dangerous tasks that many people don’t survive. He wants to go to West Berlin because his father and brother are on the other side, there is more food and better human rights. - Graham
